North Queensland playmaker Michael Morgan doesn't need surgery on his injured knee but will be sidelined for the Cowboys until round 20 of the NRL.

Morgan suffered a partial tear in his posterior cruciate ligament during Queensland's 26-16 State of Origin win on Wednesday night in Brisbane.

The Cowboys on Friday confirmed Morgan would be out for them until the July 21 clash with Canterbury, putting him in extreme doubt for the final Origin clash on July 13 in Sydney.
