NRL's Cowboys stress need for stadium

North Queensland chairman Laurence Lancini says the future is bleak for the NRL premiers if they can't secure funding for a new stadium in the Townsville CBD.

The Cowboys are ramping up pressure on the Federal Government to match the $100 million committed by Labor for the facility, which would cost an estimated $250 million.

Lancini backed down from a threat that the club may have to leave Townsville if the new stadium isn't built, but stressed their current home was at the end of its economic life.
